Leeds-based indie rock band China Steps have returned with their new single, ‘Tintwhistle’. The track is filled with a restless tension that comes from a unique blend of influences, with walls of crushing percussion matching distorted guitar chugs. The four-piece brings together a collection of members of prolific Leeds bands, each with forward-thinking musical attitudes that result in moments such as the track’s atmospheric, ambitious closing instrumental. “The song came together out of a near-death experience (slight exaggeration) some time ago when some of us were in Party Hardly, on the way to Glossop near Manchester to shoot a music video,” they explain. “Stan's back wheel came clean off as we turned a corner in a little town called Tintwhistle - and we went skidding on our side down the road and our lives flashed before our eyes.” Keep an eye out for more from China Steps. -Dan Peeke.
